Using the
Protein Data Bank and BLAST from
NCBI
I found four proteins that have a known 3D structure and that were broadly conserved
among many species of bacteria. The thumbnails on the right show an overview of each of
these proteins aligned with very simliar proteins from other species. The multiple
sequence alignments (MSAs) were generated by
MUSCLE (Edgar, 2004), and
the images were generated by
Jalview
(Waterhouse
et al., 2009)
using the Zappo color scheme, but here only columns with 100%
conservation are colored to emphasize that some residues are very highly conserved. Click
on a thumbnail for more detail.
